The Role

Reporting to the Finance Director, the primary function of the role is to take direct responsibility for all accounting and financial matters across the business, ensuring that day to day transactions are appropriate and actioned in a timely manner along with reviewing and producing financial information to the management team and shareholders.

The role will be responsible for producing meaningful insight into the business enabling strong decision-making along with helping to execute change as required. The key focus of the role is financial control, cash flow management and financial reporting.

This is a pivotal role for Jaywing in supporting the Senior Management and Operational Teams and other external stakeholders. This role will grow and evolve as the business continues to expand; thus, it requires an individual who is flexible and willing to adapt to change. The Financial Controller must be able to propose and implement new financial processes and solutions as the business continues to expand and develop.

 

Key Accountabilities 

Team Management

  • Managing a finance team which includes Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll and Finance Administration

Stakeholders

  • Supporting the various stakeholders within the business acting in the capacity of the Financial Controller
  • Along with working with the Management Team, the Financial Controller would develop key relationships with auditors, tax advisors, banks, legal advisors and key suppliers
  • The role would provide complete support to the Finance Director and provide cover as required

Month End

  • Continual review and management of the month end processes, ensuring accurate and comprehensive postings of all transactions
  • Overall responsibility for managing the full balance sheet (including the monthly reconciliation process) along with maintenance of sales, purchases and nominal ledgers
  • Review of results against budget and forecast providing other supporting information to understand and explain variances
  • Evolve the month end cycle to a targeted 6 working day close by automating and streamlining processes and workflows

Reporting

  • Working with the Finance Director, produce the monthly Board report pulling together the standard templates and any ad-hoc requests as required
  • Producing KPI and dashboards for business analysis as required
  • Ownership of the annual statutory accounts alongside the Finance Director

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Working with the management team regarding the annual budgeting process along with providing support to decision-making, target-setting and cost control aligned to strategic plans
  • Using KPIs, analytical analysis and business knowledge to produce accurate monthly rolling forecasts, explaining variances to budget and highlighting key risks and upsides

Cash management

  • Include regular reviews and cash planning, forward forecasting and ensuring commercial, fair and regular processing of supplier payments, overseeing credit control activity to ensure reasonable debtor profiles are maintained

Transactional

  • Overseeing the processing of payroll preparation and VAT returns and ensuring tax compliance and the maintenance of sensible policies in all areas

 

Skills Required

Essential

  • Experience in preparing and finalising management accounts on a regular basis for comparable company
  • A keen desire to ensure the accounting records of the business are maintained to the highest standards and in a timely manner
  • Proven ability for implementing and monitoring financial controls
  • Adaptability to changing structures or situations
  • High degree of IT literacy (including Advanced Excel)
  • Good planner with analytical and problem-solving ability
  • High degree of integrity and corporate spirit
  • Hands on approach and a team player
  • Qualified Accountant of 2 years plus

Desirable

  • Industry experience
  • Has worked within an AIM / listed environment
  • Marketing industry company experience
  • Has worked in a data or technology-based business
