The Role

To lead and manage key strategic projects and clients within the retail and B2C division. Key responsibilities include development of strategic insights that underpin our work and formulating brand communications strategies that bring together the best combination of brand, data science and performance marketing.

You will be required to work collaboratively with our middle office teams, leveraging the strategic skills and expertise of relevant counterparts in support of your work and to best answer client briefs. As a senior member of the team this role will also have responsibility for line managing junior planners and strategists and shaping the future talent of the business.

Key Accountabilities

Client Accountability

  • Lead and develop strategic projects across the business
  • Proactively challenge and develop briefs alongside the client service teams and add insight and rigour to the consumer view held in these briefs
  • Provide a strategic service to clients, helping to direct marketing strategy and overall marketing planning
  • Ensure consistently high level of service is provided by the junior members of the team, including creation of strategic insights, presentation of findings and ability to lead a creative team
  • Effectively differentiate core strategic ideas from executional treatments / tactical ideas and be able to communicate when these solutions ideas meet the client brief
  • Provide the ability to think analytically, strategically and creatively in order to solve the clients’ business problems
  • Design and lead workshops for clients that solve both business problems, consumer understanding and creative challenges
  • Plan, brief and analyse primary research projects across a wide range of disciplines and techniques (both independently managed and via 3rd party partners)
  • Effectively capture the attention and confidently lead the room in client presentations

Agency Accountability

  • Identify new business opportunities within the client’s business and industry, and work with the new business team to develop and win new business
  • Established strategic understanding of our range of client’s industries, business and their competitors
  • Demonstrate thought leadership and ability to lead/ advise client service teams on strategic client issues and adequately collaborate with middle office counterparts
  • Ensure that project management principles such as time management, effective reporting and scheduling is kept to a high standard
  • Design and lead internal working sessions to tackle brand challenges, working with CS to effectively deliver the best of Jaywing to clients (a channel agnostic champion!)
  • Demonstrate confidence presenting to large numbers and be a representative for the agency

Financial Accountability

  • Ensure all projects run profitably in-line with forecasts and that in-costs are in-line with expectations

Skills Required

Extensive experience and exposure across a range of industry sectors and marketing disciplines, together with comprehensive experience agency side.  Specific skills required include:

  • Educated to graduate level preferred
  • Professional Marketing qualification preferred (CIM or IDM)
  • Substantial industry experience
  • Able to evidence the creation, development and implementation of marketing communications strategies
  • Experience in all key areas of marketing communications strategy including performance marketing inc PPC, SEO, programmatic, data and brand inc PR (specialism/core strength permitted)
  • Experience of campaign or media planning and be able to present a multi-channel strategy or view point
  • Excellent project management skills plus an ability to multi-task proficiently.
  • A mix of analytical and creative capabilities
  • Effective upward and downward delegation skills
  • High level of diplomacy and ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships both with clients and within the agency
  • Able to give and receive feedback that supports the development of the agencies creative work and improves the effectiveness of the creative ideas
  • A desire and active interest in staying at the forefront of the marketing industry, supporting colleagues in knowledge sharing and best practice the wider COPS team

Other information

  • The role will report into the Director of Strategy and Planning
  • The role will be responsible for servicing and developing all accounts within the agency and will be required to work on new business opportunities as required
  • Line management responsibility for Junior Planning members as agreed
  • A full, clean driving license is preferred
