The Role

Lead writer on an iconic UK financial services challenger brand. As well as owning the language and driving the tone, you’ll be part of the client relationship too.

Conceptual as well as rigorous, you’ll need a few years under your belt, with a keen understanding of contemporary social channels. The day-to-day includes a wide variety of briefs featuring all kinds of writing: from headlines to long copy, light-hearted to legal, subject lines to social, quickfire tactical to award-winning wit. Yep, you need it all.

It’s a close-knit, friendly, dedicated team and you’ll be able to bring your work to life with the help of our top-notch art directors.

Key Accountabilities

  • Take briefs from the client services team, making sure you’ve got everything you need (and giving them a gentle nudge if you haven’t)
  • Work with an art director or designer to create fully-formed concepts, on brief and on time
  • Work with client services to put these concepts into presentation decks, including setting up the idea with a rationale that helps sell the work in
  • Present ideas to clients wherever possible, creating an engaging presentation and being ready to answer questions when called upon
  • Relish the challenge of writing compelling longer copy for online content
  • Love getting stuck into a pitch (and not mind burning a bit of midnight oil along the way)
  • Manage multiple projects at any one time, recording your time accurately as you go
  • Liaise with external suppliers like production companies
  • Brief freelancers on copy projects, giving quick introductions to client TOV where necessary
  • Be happy being based in our office in either Leeds or Sheffield (whatever suits you)
  • Win some awards

Skills Required

  • An outstanding writer, conceptually and technically
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in an agency or in-house role
  • Comfortable writing for all aspects of digital and social media
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Happy working alone or alongside an art director
  • Keen interest in the industry, including new trends and the latest (and best) work
  • A portfolio that shows a breadth of media and executional experience but always comes back to the most important thing: the idea
